Diversity Statement

The Department of Psychology at The Ohio State University is committed to fostering an inclusive community that welcomes, respects, and supports everyone. We value diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral to providing a supportive environment for academic excellence and professional growth. We believe that diversity is essential for learning and research and we aim to create a supportive environment that allows faculty, students, and staff to thrive.

Over the years, we have made progress in increasing the number of faculty and graduate students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. However, we are not satisfied with our current levels of diversity. We have several programs and initiatives in place to continue increasing diversity and creating a more inclusive environment for all Department members. For example, the Graduate and Professional Student Recruitment initiative sponsors underrepresented students interested in applying to graduate school. Likewise, several student groups exist to support members of underrepresented groups on campus. Looking forward, we are committed to dedicating resources and effort toward improving diversity at all levels of the Department. We especially encourage people from diverse or underrepresented groups to apply or to reach out to faculty, graduate students, or administrative staff with any questions (see Contact Page).
