The Department of Psychology at The Ohio State University is committed to fostering an inclusive community that welcomes, respects, and supports everyone. We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral to creating and maintaining a supportive environment for academic excellence, and professional development and personal growth. We believe that diversity is essential for learning and research and we aim to create an environment that allows faculty, students and staff to thrive.
Over the years, we have made progress in increasing the number of faculty and graduate students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. However, we are not satisfied with our current levels of diversity. We consider increasing diversity and supporting an inclusive and equitable environment to be a top priority for the Department. Recently, we have installed several programs and initiatives in place to increase diversity and to create a more inclusive environment for all Department members. For example, the Graduate and Professional Student Recruitment initiative hosts underrepresented students who are interested in applying to graduate school. Likewise, several student groups exist to support members of underrepresented groups on campus.
Looking forward, we are committed to dedicating our efforts and resources toward improving diversity at all levels of the Department. We especially encourage people from diverse or underrepresented groups to apply or reach out to faculty, graduate students or administrative staff with any questions (see Contact & Questions page).
