Transfer Credit

Find out how to have transfer credit evaluated by the Psych Advising Office.

We evaluate both general and special credit for courses already completed as well as courses you hope to take in future terms (pre-evaluation).

If you are planning to or have transferred to Ohio State University, the Admissions Office will do a preliminary evaluation of your transcript (submitted with your OSU application).

They will decide which courses transfer to Ohio State University, and assign either OSU course numbers for equivalent courses, or general, special, technical, or deferred credit for non-equivalent courses. You can find a description of this process and of different types of credit on the Transfer Orientation website.

If you have psychology courses that have transferred to OSU but are not assigned a particular Ohio State University course number, you can have this coursework further evaluated by our office for possible credit. You do not need an appointment to have your psychology coursework evaluated.  You will need to submit the following information:

We are unable to ensure the security of the items you provide, and therefore, you must remove your social security number from any materials that you submit to us. Please email these documents to psychadvising@osu.edu.

Please allow 1-2 weeks after we receive the information for us to get back to you about how the course was evaluated (if you do not hear from us in two weeks, please contact us at (614) 292-5750 to verify that we received your materials). The Psychology Transfer Credit Committee generally meets once a week, and they will inform you of their decision by email. Any decisions made before you take a course are based on the Admissions Office transferring the course into the university and also on what the syllabus you provide offers. If significant changes are made to the course prior to you taking it, a different decision regarding how it is evaluated may be made.

If you are a current student at Ohio State University and are interested in finding out ahead of time how a course will transfer into the university, you can check out course equivalencies with Transferology or the Registrar's Quick Equivalencies Database. If you are interested in an institution or course not listed on these sites, you can have the Psychology Transfer Credit Committee evaluate the course by providing us with the following information:

**Regarding Credit from Chinese Institutions**

Beginning Summer 2018, the Department of Psychology will no longer be accepting transfer credits from Summer Programs hosted by Chinese Universities. The Chinese Ministry of Education has notified Ohio State that they will no longer be certifying the transcripts from these programs. While accredited Chinese universities offering courses during the regular academic year will certainly still be considered by the department for transfer credit, numerous concerns have emerged in the past few years about the academic integrity of the summer programs, which led to the recent decision by the Education Ministry. Our department will consider transfer credit requests for courses taken in Summer 2017 and before. However, moving forward, beginning with courses in Summer 2018, the department will not be accepting these transfer credits. There will be no exceptions to this policy.

If you will be studying abroad, you should have your courses evaluated before you go. You do not need an appointment in order to have your psychology coursework evaluated.  You will need to submit the following documents:
