Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Translating Emotion Regulation to Structure and Streamline Interventions

Why do cognitive-behavioral treatments for emotional disorders (mood, anxiety, and related disorders) work? And how can we make them not only better, but more broadly applicable for the 38 million Americans with a psychiatric disorder who do not receive adequate treatment each year? In this talk, I’ll present a translation-al line of research I’ve conducted to unpack the complementary roles of emotion regulation, the alliance, and even maladaptive strategies to better optimize our interventions for these conditions. I’ll then introduce a modular cognitive-behavioral therapy I’ve co-developed to target not only emotional disorders but also conditions characterized by antagonism and disinhibition to provide a more comprehensive treatment framework.
