References

Provide the names and email addresses of three professional references.

References should have direct knowledge of your capacity for graduate work. Once your application is submitted, the individuals you name will receive an email with instructions for submitting their recommendation letters online through the Graduate School Application Portal. You should anticipate typical delays in obtaining letters of recommendation and get an early start.
 

TOEFL or IELTS Scores

If you are an international student, you must submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores as part of your application, unless you graduated from an institution in a country on the exemption list. 

To be official, score results must be received directly from the testing agency (Duolingo English Test, ETS or IELTS) by the application deadline. Use ETS institution code 1592 (The Ohio State University) when sending a TOEFL score. Copies of scores are not accepted. 
 

Program Area Choice(s)

Indicate your first choice of graduate program area: Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Decision Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Quantitative Psychology or Social Psychology. 

You may also indicate a second choice of program area, but this is not required. 
 

Details of Previous Psychology Courses

Provide information about psychology courses you have previously taken. 

For each, provide the course name, instructor name, grade received and credit hours earned. Also indicate the area of each course (e.g. General, Developmental, Social, Quantitative, etc.). Reviewers will also be able to see previous coursework on your transcripts.
 

Statement of Purpose

Describe why you wish to pursue graduate study, why you chose psychology as your major field of graduate study and why you are interested in attending Ohio State. 

The Statement of Purpose is a very important part of the application. It can be uploaded as either a PDF or .DOC/.DOCX file. Do not send paper copies. 
 

CV or Resumé

Detail your educational background, professional history, awards and honors, publications and other key achievements. Do not include writing samples; these will be solicited by the graduate program admissions chair as needed.

Official Transcripts

Submit electronic copies of official transcripts from ALL institutions you have attended where college credit was earned, including during high school. Each transcript should indicate your grade point average (GPA) and all courses taken at that institution. 

Transcripts must be official institutional records. We do not accept web reports, advising reports, self-reported scores or transfer credit listed on another school’s transcript. International credentials should include certified educational records and degree certificates or diplomas in the original language, along with English translations. 

Do not send paper transcripts unless requested to do so. If you are admitted to the university as a graduate student, you will be required to submit final official transcripts. Paper transcripts can take 2 to 4 weeks to process once received by Ohio State. Applicants are responsible for requesting official transcripts from their institutions far enough in advance to allow for this processing time before the application deadline.

Indicate which psychology faculty and labs you would like to work with at Ohio State. Review faculty profiles and lab websites to find those with similar research interests.
