Maggie Hart, from Dayton, OH, comes from a family of Buckeyes and chose Ohio State, in part, to be part of that legacy. She was also drawn to our renowned psychology program, knowing right from the start of her college career she wanted to major in psychology. “I chose psychology . . . because I have noticed the increasing amount of mental and emotional struggles many people face today. I wanted to increase mental health awareness and provide children, particularly adolescents, with the opportunity to explore their emotions and not be afraid of communicating them.”

During her nearly four years here, Maggie found numerous ways to engage with what Ohio State has to offer. Within the Psychology Department, Maggie worked for three years in the Cognitive and Affective Influences in Decision Making Lab where she coded and analyzed data and designed training modules for new undergrad research assistants. She also served for two years as a Psychology Ambassador where she helped teach freshman survey, coordinated department events, and engaged with prospective students through phone calls and in-person sessions. Outside of psychology, Maggie is the vice president of BuckeyesonTap, a tap-dancing student organization on campus.

After graduating this spring, Maggie hopes to pursue a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and ultimately go on to obtain a PhD in Counseling Psychology. Her goal is to become an adolescent psychologist specializing in anxiety disorders. Some advice she shares for students interested in psychology: “Keep an open mind to the extensive number of diverse areas a psychology degree can offer. You are able to apply a psychology degree to any career you pursue after college and it's a fantastic way to explore your interests related to psychology and gain valuable experiences and connections.” She also highly recommends both the Positive Psychology and Psych of Gender courses!
