Class of 2020: Claudia Echard

Claudia Echard

Claudia, from Byesville, OH, chose to major in psychology because she enjoyed learning about the ways people interact with one another. Ohio State attracted her because of its wide array of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Over the last four years, Claudia has taken advantage of much of what OSU has to offer.

Last summer, Claudia traveled abroad to Barcelona, Spain where she took coursework to finish her Spanish minor. The experience strengthened both her knowledge of Spanish culture and her own sense of independence. Over the years, she has greatly enjoyed the Psychology Research Colloquium and catching up on the various research studies going on throughout the department. This semester she will graduate with research distinction in psychology after completing her own thesis with Dr. Duane Wegener related to attitudes and persuasion.

In AU20, Claudia begins her master’s degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs, which allows her to remain at Ohio State for two more years. Her advice to incoming psychology majors? “Take psychology courses that may be outside of your comfort zone and make connections with your professors. This is a great way to make a large class feel smaller and more manageable!” One specific way she mentions to forge these professor connections is by participating in ASC’s Take Your Professor to Lunch program.
